In 2015, Derek Spayd ventured to start his own welding shop in a 1 bay garage on his chicken farm in Mount Joy, PA. The business started out as Spayd's Welding and Fabricating. In 2018, he reconstructed a 5000 sq. ft. pole barn on his farm to house bigger jobs and more employees. He added his first press brake and shearer along with additional, miscellaneous fabrication and machining tools. He had grown to about 9 employees in this shop. By 2021, the company became Spayd's Industrial, as he purchased a 30,000 sq. ft. shop along PA Route 230 near Elizabethtown. It houses welding, custom metal fabrication and millwrighting operations. The business has since grown to 15 employees.
